Mastering the Art of Treating Eating Disorders

Training other professionals to effectively treat individuals struggling with Eating Disorders has been one of our main passions and focus for over 20 years.

Training therapists to treat those with Eating Disorders

Dr. Michelle Micsko, a Licensed Doctoral-level Psychologist, has been training professionals to treat individuals with eating issues and body image concerns at the following stages of their careers :

  • Licensed, PhD-level, Psychologists seeking specialty training
  • PhD-level Psychologists seeking training and hours towards licensure
  • Licensed, Master’s level psychotherapists seeking specialty training
  • Master’s level psychotherapists seeking training and hours toward licensure
  • Interns seeking their Master’s and PhD degrees while enrolled at a local University

Opportunities consist of:

  • Ongoing supervision including taped review of sessions.
  • Ongoing shadowing of Dr. Micsko (sitting in the therapy room) while she conducts individual, family, and group psychotherapy. It is recommended to engage in this experience for no less than one to two years so as to follow treatment during initial, middle and terminal stages of therapeutic intervention.
  • Participating in regular peer consultations with a multidisciplinary team including Psychologists, Master’s level therapists, Registered Dietitians, and Physicians–all specializing in the treatment of Eating Disorders.
  • Ongoing shadowing of Kathi Bjerg, RD while she is session with her clients to understand why nutrition therapy is an integral part of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Attendance at workshops which provide training in the evaluation and treatment of Eating Disorders.

Training Dietitians to treat those with Eating Disorders

Kathi Bjerg, Registered Dietitian, has been providing supervision and training since 1997 to dietitians who are learning to treat those struggling with disordered eating.

Opportunities for Dietitians at InSight consist of:

  • Ongoing supervision including taped review of sessions.
  • Ongoing shadowing of Kathi Bjerg while she conducts nutrition therapy sessions. It is recommended to engage in this experience for no less than one to two years so as to follow treatment during initial, middle and terminal stages of therapeutic intervention.
  • Participating in regular peer consultations with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attendance at workshops which provide training in the evaluation and treatment of Eating Disorders.
  • Exposure to handouts and educational materials developed by Kathi, that are used throughout ongoing sessions with patients as a part of the dietitian treatment regimen.
